Some Friday tunes

Okay, okay... I'm still sulking over not seeing Kings of Chaos in June. I may or may not get over it in about 3 months. He-he.

Anyway, so Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge is joining the group for the tour here is SA. I know the music, but I don't really know the people behind the music. So I had to google him... bad rock fan, I know!

I found Watch Over You on youtube. Awesome! Pretty powerfull song and video.

He looks a bit like Kevin Bacon when he sings, me thinks. Speaking of Kevin Bacon...

Footloose (the original!) is one of my favourite movies and the best song EVER! Hope it got you in the mood for the weekend. Have a good one.

Liebster Blog Award Nominations!

I was recently nominated for the Liebster Blog Award by two amazing ladies!!! Thank you so much!! I’m so sorry for taking so long to answer your questions, but here they are. I hope you don't mind that I put them together in one post?!

The first nomination was from the beautiful Amina from Oh! Just one more! Go check out her blog now!

1. How long have you been blogging? I started September 2012

2. Do you prefer tea or coffee? Whatever you’re making!

3. If you were stuck on an island, who would you want with you there? My family… can’t live without them.

4. What’s the last book you have read? The Pregnancy Bible. That was over two years ago! I don’t read. I don’t have the time!

5. What beauty product could you not live without? I can’t leave the house without mascara and foundation.

6. What do you spend bulk of your day doing? Sitting in front of my pc at work.

7. What is your biggest pet peeve? Inconsiderate and rude people! I hate people who look down on others.

8. What inexpensive makeup item do you swear by? Essence lip gloss. I don’t get why people spend a fortune on gloss.

9. Which celebrity are you currently crushing on? Hmm…Both guys from PS I love you. It’s the accent.

10. If you could star in one movie, which movie would it be and who would you act as? That’s easy! I’m Baby in Dirty Dancing!!!

11. Milk, dark or white chocolate? Mmmm… chocolate… what was the question?

Oh-so-funky Meghan from Meghan Silva's Blog also nominated me!
1.    What makes your blog unique? I don’t really think that my blog is unique. I’m still trying to find my feet. At this stage, the point of my blog is to tell girls about products and tips that help me to feel better about myself; to give me a bit more confidence. If you discover something that works for you via my blog, I’m very happy! I love to share.
2.    How long have you been blogging? Almost 8 months.
3.    Flats or heels? I love heels! But they make it hard running after a toddler at the moment.
4.    If you could live in any era which would it be? I love where I live right now. My parents and my sister are walking distance from me. And most of my friends are also not too far away. But if I can take them all with me to Knysna, I would.
5.    Which blog is your absolute favorite? Too many to mention. I love reading SA blogs. I like reading the blogs of beauty editors and those who know what they are talking about when it comes to all things beauty. But I love blogs written by ‘normal’ girls. By that I mean girls like me, who have a day time job, but blog about their latest beauty finds, interests. I like personal posts as well.
6.    Where do you see your blog in 1 year? I’d love to be able to reach more people.
7.    How important is fashion in your life? At this stage, I wear what fits. That’s quite sad. But I am on a mission! I do love the rock/grunge look that’s in at the moment though. So my style!
8.    In 5 words how would you describe yourself? Shy, loyal, trusting, loving & opinionated
9.    Favorite song at the moment? I wanna rock! Any rock music, especially the older stuff.
10. What would be your one blog related tip for people who want to start blogging? Be yourself and don’t try to impress. The readers will come.
11. What’s your beauty secret? Wash your face!!! Never EVER go to bed with your make-up on.

Thank you both for the nominations! And for sharing your blogs with us.

Top Tip Tuesday

For perfectly blended eyeshadow, apply your shadow with one brush and use a clean brush to blend the edges.

My favourite blending brush is THIS angled contour brush from Beautique.

Note to all moms

Being a mom is amazing, BUT it’s the hardest job IN THE WORLD! This morning was especially hard. I sometimes worry that the neighbours think I’m crazy. I screamed at Cara, then the dogs, then Cara again. How I wished the terrible two’s would sidestep our family. Murphy is a bitch! Anyway, after sobbing in the car all the way to work, thinking I’m a horrible mother, this made me laugh. I feel better now.

Thank you Living Lionheart for posting this J

DIY Beauty – Aspirin Mask

I think this is one of my best budget beauty discoveries of all time!! Got your attention?!
I stumbled upon this great post by Natalie from Health and Beauty Fair and I could not wait to get to the shops to get me some aspirin. Do yourself a favour and read her post first as she explains why the aspirin does what it does. Read it the post HERE.
In a nutshell: the acids in aspirin work as a chemical exfoliator.
I really struggle with manual exfoliators because they tend to just aggravate my sensitive skin and leave my skin looking drier than before. I used to go for regular peels, but in all honesty, I just can’t afford it right anymore. Well, I haven’t been able to for a couple of years now, and my skin really started to suffer as peels are the best thing EVER!
But now *doing a happy dance* I found the next best thing. My skin looks clearer, healthier and feels much smoother than it has in a long time. I REALLY love this mask.
I have been using it for a couple of months now, but I did not want to post about it until I tested it thoroughly. I also tested it on my Mom and Gran who both have sensitive skins, and they raved about it. I now have to give them a mini facial every week using this mask. My Gran is turning 78 at the end of the month by the way J
I have tweeked the mask a bit so that it suits me a bit better… here is how I make it:
·         I take 5 – 8 aspirins and add a couple of drops of boiling water.
·         Once soft, I mash them up and add some hydrating mask (I use THIS one from Clicks).
·         I then cover my face and neck (staying away from the eye area) with the mask using a brush.
·         I leave the mask on for 10 – 15 minutes.
·         Before I rinse, I gently massage my face and neck with the grainy mask.
Voila… silky soft and radiant skin!
I purchased the aspirin at Clicks. Best to ask for the behind-the-counter stuff. It works out much cheaper – I bought 200 tablets for about R26 (if I remember correctly). Remember to ask for uncoated aspirin.
Have you tried an aspirin mask before? Please tell me how you experience it.

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution

I am sure that you have read numerous posts on this product before. I have. Too many to count. People all over the world can’t say enough good things about it. So, I just had to have it. For no reason other than the fact that everybody wants it.

Then a friend gave me bottle. Woo-hoo! And then I tried it. I didn’t understand the fuss.
By the off chance that you haven’t heard of it before, this is what the Bioderma website says:
·         At the cutting edge of innovation, BIODERMA has pioneered micellar solutions. Specially formulated for sensitive, normal to dry skins, the Sensibio H2O micelle solution gently cleanses face and eyes. It removes water-resistant make-up.
The micelles contained in its formula effectively micro-emulsify impurities while maintaining the skin’s balance (soap-free, physiological pH).
·         Soothing and decongesting active ingredients prevent the feelings of irritation often caused by cleansing.
·         Sensibio H2O guarantees excellent cutaneous and ocular tolerance (tested under ophthalmological supervision).

It’s gentle…yes. It removes make-up… yes. It removes mascara… with a bit of work, yes. But my skin didn’t feel really clean just using that. I like to wash and rinse. So it stood on my dressing table and gathered dust for a couple of days.
I started to feel guilty because it was a gift, so I gave it another go. I am so glad I did!
I now use it as a ‘pre-cleanse’. I wet a cotton pad with the product and give my face a good once-over. I love that this is a ‘water’ – I really don’t like make-up removers as they  leave a oily/sticky residue on my skin that I can’t stand. Then I wash with my usual foaming cleanser. My skin looks and feels super clean and I have noticed I vast improvement in the condition of my skin ever since using the Bioderma. My skin looks clearer and the break-outs have been minimal.
I can’t honestly say if it’s the micellar water itself or the fact that I’ve been ‘double cleansing’ that has made the difference, but I love it and I will be sticking to this routine.
On a side note… I have also incorporated a toner into my routine and that has also made a huge difference to the condition of my skin. I always thought that cleansing followed by a treatment and moisturizer is enough. I was SO wrong! I’ll tell you a bit more about the toner I’m currently using a bit later.
Have you tried micellar water? What are your thoughts?
